A New PHR Built on BlockChain

News came out last week that looks to be a very promising revelation in the area of Personal Health Records. Dr. Samir Damani and Dr. Vishal Verma, both serial entrepreneurs in the realm of healthcare, have announced the founding of a new organization and future consumer app, MintHealth.

MintHealth will be a blockchain foundational, untethered personal health record. This means that patients will be able to engage with health plans, providers, other patients, and pharmacies all across EHR lines. Additionally, the foundation of blockchain technology means that patient data will be more secure and more likely to succeed in areas where many other PHRs have failed due to interoperability challenges.

The ultimate goal of MintHealth is provide a strong PHR platform that aligns the interests of all players within the healthcare system, and even financially rewards patients for positive health behavior that can lead to a decrease or improvement in chronic health conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. Please feel free to take a look at the MintHealth website, where you can sign up for further alerts on the platform, or at the two articles I referenced chronicling the announcement of MintHealth. I am excited to follow this new group in the future as they move forward to their first release.

  1. I liked the MintHealth website and News link. This is serious for patient empowerment and security. They also use incentives for mobile app use that can be applied to their wallet. Blockchain seems like a positive disruption for PHRs.
